"You've just missed Shotaro Hidari. I'm probably fighting those that make the city cry. I'll get back to you as soon as I'm done."

Tip Box
The box is cardboard, mostly purple with some black bits. The top has a standup part on it that reads "Hidari Detective Agency". The message on it says: Need help? Know someone that does? See something weird you want someone to look into? Leave me a note here!

"Ah, dammit. One game like that and all the girls lose their minds." He pulled himself up to his feet. "Come on, partner. Let's take a walk."

He looked up at Shotaro curiously before getting to his feet. "I suppose we should get breakfast..."

Sigh. "She blamed me for our losing even though she's the one who didn't answer correctly."

He laughed. "Philip, listen. She probably was picking something that she thought you would like, even if you don't think it was accurate. I'd have to say she's got good taste if she's picked up the investigational brilliance of Shotaro Hidari. And if she's got an eye on your effortless charms, partner."

"My charms...?" Shotaro was making no sense, as usual. Philip sighed in frustration. "But she said that you're smarter than me! How can she be attracted to me if she doesn't know anything about me?"

"They wanted first and last name, right? Since she didn't know yours, she probably picked someone you liked as a second choice. I guess she didn't expect how determined you were to get around that," he shrugged.

He pouted. "My second choice would have been John Smith, anyway..."

"Ouch, your partner doesn't even come in second." But he laughed.

He managed a smug smile, but only for a moment.

"Should I do something about this?"

"You should probably apologize for being mean to her. And maybe ask her out for coffee." He draped an arm over Philip's shoulder conspiratorially, not because he needed the support for his missing foot. "Maybe you'll get a good date out of it, huh?"

He shrugged away from Shotaro's arm. "I told you, I have no interest in mating. And I wasn't mean to her."

"Then make friends. And don't call it that, it's weird." He gave his partner kind of a fond smile, though. It was a very Philip kind of weird.

He still looked fairly grumpy.

They came to the cafeteria and he got himself some breakfast. Maybe eating would make him feel better.

Shotaro opted just for coffee this morning. Best case scenario, he could have a celebratory lunch. Worst case, he would be having breakfast again before he knew what hit him. But aside from that, he was making an effort to appear as though nothing were unusual.

"Man, it's not fair that she gave me and Fetch a warning but not you two..."

Philip picked at his cereal. "How many did the two of you answer correctly?"

He shrugged. "Enough. By pure dumb luck. I had to be vague about a few of them but it ended up being good enough. I just relied on my detective's intuition." He skimmed his finger along the brim of his fedora.

"Perhaps you're smarter than I gave you credit for. Ah, but the same would go for Fetch, wouldn't it..."

"Oi!" he protested. "What part of brilliant investigational mind did you miss, Reasearch Maniac?"

"Oh? I've never heard Fetch described that way," he said lightly.

"I'm gonna clean your clock for that!" He stood up and leaned over the table at him. Though his mild loss of balance from being short a foot kind of took the potency out of his threat. As if there were any to begin with.

Philip just laughed and started to dig into his cereal.

Shotaro drained his coffee. Philip seemed to be in good enough spirits that he could probably go on his way now. "I got something to take care of. I'll see you later, partner." He gave him a wink and got up from the table.

He glanced up curiously. "Ah, all right. Let me know if you need anything."

"Sure thing," he lied. No, he was going solo on this one.
