The box is cardboard, mostly purple with some black bits. The top has a standup part on it that reads "Hidari Detective Agency". The message on it says: Need help? Know someone that does? See something weird you want someone to look into? Leave me a note here!

You're the biggest nerd, you know that?

[ But she was smiling too, even laughing a bit. As much as the pain would let her, anyway ]

Hey! [Moving on, though.]

Okay, something easy. Have you ever had a pet?

Oh man, I wish. I want a Burmese cat so bad. They're seriously the cutest cats ever.

[ Oops. She got way carried away with that. ]

Anwyay -- okay, what did you wanna grow up to be when you were a kid?

[A grin] I've wanted to be a detective since I was pretty young. I first saw the Boss working a case when I was about ten. I decided that was the kind of man I wanted to be.

So you've always been the good guy, huh?

Normal, boring, kind of lame. [ She shrugged. She didn't really want to think about home. ]

What's your favorite song?

"Naturally" by Wakana Sonozaki. She's a little bit of a local star at home. Almost like an angel.

If you could get any superpower, what would it be?

[sentimentalpsycho]

Sounds like I don't need to ask your celebrity crush then. [ She winked playfully. ]

Super speed. Like, what I got now but way better.

If you could direct your own movie, what would it be about?

[tanteiotaku]

[A 'guilty as charged' shrug.]

A hard-boiled detective and his bookworm partner. I'd have to change some details to protect the innocent and my own privacy of course....

Are you trying to say you want to run away?

[sentimentalpsycho]

Hah. Cute.

Maybe. Running away is what I'm best at. At least until I got caught anyway. Sometimes I think that if I could I'd just run and never stop. Not for anybody or anything. Then nothing would hurt anymore.

[ She hadn't intended to say so much, but somehow it felt okay to tell Shotaro. ]

[A hand coming to rest on her leg.] Sometimes staying to finish the fight is the smarter move. Then you're free.

What's the first thing you would do if you were cut loose tomorrow?

[sentimentalpsycho]

[ She looked down to his hand, then back up at his face. It had been a long time since anyone had touched her with anything different than violent intent. ]

I tried that once. But I failed. [ She couldn't help turning away again. ] That's why if I was out of here tomorrow, I'd go to my brother's grave and tell him how sorry I am.

[He suddenly felt kind of awkward.] Uh. Sorry. I didn't mean to...

[ She shook her head. She'd gone way too far. ]

I'm the one who blew it. [ She turned back, but didn't look him in the eye. ] You don't gotta stay after that.

[tanteiotaku]

[He shook his head back at her.] You can't get rid of me that easy. We've all got regrets. I'd probably have a grave to visit too, but I don't think he has one... [He reaches to hold her hand, if she'll let him.]

[sentimentalpsycho]

[ Her eyes ventured to his, speaking a mutual understanding even if she couldn't find the words. She was scared, in a way, to open up so much but she was finding it was what she wanted more than anything. Hesitantly, she opened her hand to him. ]

[tanteiotaku]

[He gave her hand a firm squeeze.] Sorry to hear about your brother.

[sentimentalpsycho]

Yeah... sorry about whoever you lost too.

[ The feeling of his hand holding hers was nice. Nicer than she'd remembered that kind of thing was. She smiled slightly. ]

Thanks for bein' someone I can depend on, Sho.

Sokichi Narumi, my mentor. He taught me everything I know.

[He actually looks a little surprised she thinks that way about him. He fidgets a bit with his hat to save face.] What kind of detective would I be if you couldn't?

[sentimentalpsycho]

He did a good job. [ She smiled lightly, scooting just a bit closer to lean her head on his shoulder. Moving hurt, but it was worth it. ]

[And he's got a proper smile on his face for the first time in ages. And he really doesn't know what to say to that. He fidgets with his tie and hat again. And he might be a little red in the face. After a moment he feels a little awkward at the silence and he's visibly searching for something to say.]

[sentimentalpsycho]

[ Fetch couldn't help the grin spreading across her face. There was something about Shotaro that made her feel so safe. So happy. She'd thought that she would never be happy again after losing Brent, but maybe meeting Shotaro meant that it was okay to be happy again. Impulsively, she grabbed his tie and pulled him closer. ]

Come over here, you cute nerd.

[ She tilted her head and planted her lips on his for the second time that week. This time, though, there was no ulterior motive to it. Just honest feelings. ]

[He reached up to keep his hat from being knocked off when she pulled him in.] C-cute? [But before he could protest further she was kissing him again. This was much better than the last time because he could actually enjoy it. One of these days he was going to do the kissing. But for now, he would take her lead.]

[sentimentalpsycho]

[ She closed her eyes and leaned in closer to deepen the kiss. She didn't know why she was falling for this goofy detective but she couldn't help herself. It just felt... good. Right, even. ]

[He didn't know what he did right but he sure as hell wasn't going to question it. He tucked his fingers into her hair at the back of her neck. After a moment he pulled away and smiled.]
