After Philip had gone, all of Shotaro's energy went with him. This wasn't like the last time, far from it. But his gut was still all twisted up. He couldn't even really summon up the energy to care that his tie was both hanging loose and poorly-tied. He lounged on the couch in the common part of his room with Amy. He had his hat covering his face, a Dixon Hill novel split open on his chest, ignored, and a cup of coffee on the table that had been ignored so long it had gone cold.

Also on the table was his typewriter, with a piece of paper loaded into it. He had tried to take his mind off things by working on another section of his case log here on the Enterprise, but he had only gotten as far as the star date before deciding reading was a better idea. And it was clear how well that was going.

If only he had remembered to take the sock off the door from last night.

What would you like your character's tag to be?: shotaro hidari

In 300-500 words total, tell us your...
Character's background (their past and present):
Shotaro Hidari had always had a unique sense of justice and protectiveness of the city he lived in and the people he cared about. Even when he was young, he swore to find the hat of a friend of his that had blown away from the top of a building just so he didn’t see her cry. He didn’t succeed though.

Some time later, he saw hard-boiled private detective Sokichi Narumi at work on a case at a theatre. That day he decided that was the kind of man he wanted to be. Shortly after graduating high school, Sokichi agreed to take him on as an apprentice at his agency. Shotaro took to the work very easily, having an excellent deductive mind and an eagerness to help the people in his community.

He was also eager to take up the fedora of the hard-boiled detective aesthetic. Sokichi forbid him until he had considered him ready. But when Sokichi was shot escaping the Museum while rescuing Philip, that was when the moment came. Sokichi’s last deeds were to place his hat on Shotaro’s head and bid him to become a man worthy of wearing it.

Since then, Philip and Shotaro have come together as a formidable force. Between Philip’s access to the Gaia Library and Shotaro’s skill as a detective, they’re more than capable of taking on the extra difficulty Dopants bring to their life in Fuuto. As they say themselves, they are together one detective, and one Kamen Rider.

Character's personality: At first impressions, Shotaro is hard to take seriously. He cares a lot about appearances of being a hard-boiled detective, and dresses the part. But he cares a lot for the people around him, even perfect strangers and gangsters. He is a genuinely capable detective, and never backs down when challenged. He will not tolerate anyone that makes someone else cry, and will do what it takes for them to answer for it. This grossly undermines his desire to be known as a “hard-boiled” detective, causing most people to call him “half-boiled”.

He takes the responsibility he’d been given to take care of Philip seriously, and gives him the space he needs to find his own way while trying to make sure he doesn’t get hurt in the process. He well and truly believes in him as a partner, and trusts him implicitly and explicitly. That’s not to say his emotional nature doesn’t sometimes clash with Philip’s more logical and rational nature, sometimes even to blows, but they consider themselves two parts of the same whole, both as Double and as detectives.

Character's skills/abilities/powers:
He is a very good brawler. He has no martial arts training, but he is a scrappy fighter. He has no trouble going fisticuffs with monsters before transforming.
He is a very capable detective under all the posturing. Even without Philip’s help, he’s very capable of solving cases.
He is an excellent finder of things, especially lost pets.
Shotaro is the Body half of Kamen Rider Double. He primarily does the fighting unless Philip specifically takes control.
Any special equipment your character is bringing along? This includes weaponry, magic items, etc.:
The Double Driver - This allows him to transform into Kamen Rider Double with Philip. When he puts his on, the other appears on Philip. While they’re being worn, they can communicate telepathically with each other.
Three Gaia Memories - Joker (fighting augmentation), Metal (harder body and a steel staff to fight with), and Trigger (gun)
Stag - A Gaia memory incorporated into a cell phone. Capable of communication with Philip’s and to Bat without the limitations of conventional cell phones.
Bat - A Gaia memory incorporated into a camera. It follows verbal commands and can send video and stills back to either his or Philip’s phones. It can also fly.
Are you bringing your character to [community profile] ten_fwd from another game? If you are, which game?: Nope!
If you answered yes above, briefly summarize how they were changed by and what challenges they faced in the climate of their previous game(s): N/A
Why do you want to play this character in Ten Forward, and what do you plan to do with them? I really look forward to bringing Shotaro to an environment like the Enterprise, and having his (and Philip's, by extenstion) was something I was looking for in a game. I plan on engaging in many shenanigans and especially look forward to Double going on away missions because what's not awesome about that?
